Growing up in my native Australia, I developed a love for merino. Wearing it as a child, I realised what an incredible wool it is, unrivalled in softness and functionality. Add in its natural beauty, and you have a fabric which is truly unique and incredibly eco-friendly.
Warm in the winter, cool in the summer – soft to the touch, comfy, cosy and resistant to pilling/bobbling – Merino has always been my go-to fabric for my own knitwear. After becoming a parent, I realised the real benefits of dressing your baby in Merino. Not only does the fabric ensure optimum warmth and breathability, but it’s never itchy, bulky or uncomfortable like other wool-based knitwear.
In my search to find Merino wool knitwear for babies, I found there was hardly anything on the market, as most of the Merino wool clothing I found for infants wasn’t designed with outerwear or durability in mind or contained only a small percentage of wool and natural fibres. In 2014, a year after the birth of my third baby, I first had the idea for Scarlet Ribbon Merino – a range of beautiful, practical babywear which focuses on the simple pleasures of life. At the end of 2015, we launched our first collection, addressing the limited amount of knitted merino daywear and accessories for babies aged 0-18 months.
Scarlet Ribbon Merino emphasises comfort, style and practicality – each piece is designed with these principles in mind, giving baby complete freedom to crawl, run, eat, play and sleep without being restricted by fussy details or unnecessary fastenings. Simple designs with zips to make changes easy, not fiddly buttons, easy to care for mix and match pieces to create a look as unique as your baby.
Wondering where we get our unique name from? The Scarlet Ribbon is a native Australian wildflower, which like Merino, embodies beauty and strength. This helps embody the principles we live by – an appreciation of what truly makes life worthwhile; soft, uncomplicated clothing, and a meeting of tradition, aspiration and style.
With Scarlet Ribbon Merino, you can be sure you’ll be wrapping your little one in nature’s best every single day. Not only will you be keeping them warm, safe and comfortable, but you’ll keep them looking smart – whatever the weather and whatever the occasion!
