Unwrapped! Scarlet Ribbon Merino launches for Winter 2015

I am so excited to announce the launch of the Scarlet Ribbon Merino online store this week! Nearly two years in the making…what started as an idea at a mums’ ‘brainstorming lunch’ has finally become a reality!  Our beautiful 5-piece collection of baby knitwear made from 100% Extrafine Merino wool will be on sale online from 7th October.  Just in time for Winter, Christmas shopping and coinciding with the Campaign for Wool's  UK Wool week.

The journey…

The past couple of years have been amazing and full of challenging and exciting times.  Having decided not to go back to full time work after my third child, I was focussed on Scarlet Ribbon and dedicated to making it happen.  I had always wanted to start my own business and felt really passionate about the brand and product idea, having received positive feedback from people I knew the industry.  With a background in marketing and international trade, knitwear manufacturing was a whole new world and I certainly encountered some steep learning curves along the way!  From finding a suitable manufacturing partner (not an easy task!), to sourcing yarn and prototyping each of the designs, whilst ensuring that Scarlet Ribbon remained true to the original idea:  to create a collection which combines beauty and luxury with everyday practicality.  That is what the brand is all about and I think we’ve achieved this.

So why start yet another UK baby clothing brand?

Wanting to dress my children in warm, natural, breathable fibres, I found it frustrating that much of knitwear available in the UK contained either no wool or very little. The 100% wool knitwear I did find was often itchy, uncomfortable and very bulky for dressing babies, or very delicate, expensive and impractical for every day wear.  Growing up in Australia (the largest producer of Merino wool), I was already a convert to Merino due to its incredible functional qualities, comfort and beauty.  It was the obvious choice for creating the Scarlet Ribbon collection and built on it’s growing reputation in the UK as a baby wool for sleepwear and base layers.  The Scarlet Ribbon collection brings the beauty and functional practicality of  merino to the outside, with knitted daywear…which is also perfect for your baby to sleep in whilst out and about.

I hope you like our launch range for Winter 2015.  In subsequent seasons we are looking to expand our offering with new styles, designs, colours and sizes so watch this space! In the meantime, we'd love to get your feedback on the collection, so do get in touch.
