The romance of Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be forgotten completely just because you’re a new mum. In fact, having a baby can make the day even more special. We’ve got some fantastic ideas on exactly how to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a little one in tow.
If you’re still feeling delicate after the birth of your new baby, if you’re breastfeeding, or if you simply prefer to stay indoors, enjoying Valentine’s Day at home is a lovely thing to do. You get to be pampered and spoilt, and you can spend some properly relaxing time with your new addition. That doesn’t happen too often, so make the most of it!
Let your other half take care of the kids for an hour or two and soak in a bubbly bath. If you’re not breastfeeding, why not pour yourself a glass of fizz or some wine, and read a book or listen to music with the guarantee of not being disturbed?
Staying at home can certainly have its advantages, especially if your partner is willing to do the cooking. There are loads of romantically themed recipes on line (we particularly like the look of some of these ones from Waitrose). If the children are old enough, they might even want to help out with the preparation.
Just because you have a small child, it doesn’t mean you have to stay in the house if you’d prefer not to. If you have parents who would be happy to babysit for an evening you might decide to go out for a romantic meal. If they can babysit for the whole night, there’s nothing wrong with staying overnight in a hotel – you deserve a bit of me time, after all. No babysitter? No problem! Make a weekend of it..check out http://www.totstoo.com for baby friendly hotels.
Partners aren’t the be all and end all of Valentine’s Day – single mummies can have just as much pampering and enjoyment. Visit a salon (plenty have great Valentine’s Day offers, and there are even some with a crèche, especially if they’re in a hotel or spa) and treat yourself to a truly luxurious day out; massage, manicure, a dip in a jacuzzi, some time in a sauna… whatever works for you, do it.
Or why not get the girls round for a girly Valentine’s chat and lunch? Dress up and look glam (dress the little one up too) and enjoy spending time with your friends.
Even if Valentine’s isn’t your thing, it can be the perfect opportunity to show your friends and family how much you love them. Who said the day had to be all about romance?
Send Baby Love
Your family and friends all adore your baby. That’s a fact. So why not make and send homemade cards, complete with gorgeous photo of your little one in your favourite baby cardigan to tell them how much you appreciate their love and support?
Sweet Treats
No one can say no to a sweet treat on Valentine’s Day (or any other day, come to that). There are some simple recipes (including this one from Annabel Karmel for Sweetheart Biscuits) that children of all ages can help with, so you can get older siblings involved too. Bake up a storm and send the results round to everyone you know – happy Valentine’s!
